Mexico's foreign ministry said on Friday that it aims to reach an agreement with the United States in January over Mexico's planned ban on genetically modified corn imports. Talks would continue in the meantime toward a mutual understanding.
Mexico imports about 17 million tonnes of US corn a year, so the outcome of the GM corn dispute directly affects US corn export demand. A deal that allows feed corn would limit downside for US corn prices.
