An industry study commissioned by the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association estimates that federal low-carbon fuel incentives could more than triple ethanol profit margins if carbon capture pipelines are built. It warns that without them, roughly three-quarters of Iowa production could shift out of state.
The outcome of carbon pipeline development determines where ethanol capacity and corn grinding will sit, a structural rather than short-term price driver.
