Indonesia is using a series of export policies, including a crude palm oil export tax waiver until October 31, a Trade Ministry reference price mechanism and a duty threshold, to increase crude palm oil export volumes. The measures follow an April-May export ban that left producers with excess inventory and lower smallholder fresh fruit bunch prices.
Policies that push Indonesian crude palm oil onto export markets increase global supply at discounted prices, which is bearish for palm oil and competing vegetable oils. Government revenue trade-offs may shift these measures again.
