The offshore yuan rose at its fastest pace against the dollar in a year, with the dollar falling as low as 6.8071 yuan in offshore trade. The People's Bank of China lowered its yuan midpoint to 6.9307, and new capital-control rules were introduced that tighten scrutiny of large cash transactions and foreign-currency purchases.
Stronger yuan and tighter capital controls can support Chinese import purchasing power while reducing capital outflow pressure. The effect on feed commodity prices is likely small.
