Ranking Member Collin Peterson said the next farm bill should be funded at a higher baseline rather than cut, citing farm financial strain and priorities including restoring cotton as a covered commodity and fixing Dairy Margin Protection. He also said he would like the Conservation Reserve Program returned to 35 to 40 million acres.
A larger baseline would support dairy margin protection and cotton programs, while a CRP expansion would take land out of production over time, a mildly bullish factor for crop prices.
