Ethanol producers in the Midwest are facing high vomitoxin levels in much of last year's record corn crop, with supplies from Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa and Indiana reported above maximum levels allowed for human and animal feed. Ethanol production concentrates mycotoxin levels to roughly three times the original level.
Contaminated corn limits usable feed supply and pushes DDGS prices, already near their lowest since 2009, lower, while weak ethanol margins add further pressure on DDGS demand and prices.
