U.S. ethanol exports to China fell after a 30% Chinese tariff, dropping China from third-largest destination in 2016 to 11th in 2017. China took 22 million gallons from the U.S. in December, and Beijing is considering adding another 15 percent tariff on U.S. ethanol.
Lost access to the Chinese market reduces U.S. ethanol export demand, though analysts expect China's growing blend mandate to keep it a desirable market.
