The EU Commission's MARS unit's May 2018 bulletin forecasts average wheat yields across most of the EU, with above-average yields expected in the west and southeast. Rapeseed yields are forecast about 3% below the 2013-2017 average, with the oilseed plants reported to have suffered significantly.
Average EU wheat yields limit the need for imports, while the lower rapeseed forecast tightens oilseed supply for crushers and biodiesel makers and supports meal and oil prices.
