The US dollar closed at BRL 3.812 on June 14, up 2.64%, its sharpest daily rise in 13 months. The move followed news that the European Central Bank would end its bond purchase programme at the end of 2018.
It also came as the Brazilian Central Bank ended its USD 20 billion swap auctions, which had been designed to curb the dollar's rise.
