UK feed-wheat and barley prices rose after the cost of imported maize climbed sharply, as US planting reached only 49% against a five-year average above 80%. The UK wheat futures contract for November 2019 reached about £150/t, its highest since late February.
A slow US maize crop and higher maize costs push feed buyers toward wheat and barley, lifting domestic cereal prices. Analysts expect maize use to fall back to average levels.
