AHDB's annual supply and demand estimates put UK oat production for 2019-20 at 1.215m tonnes, 19% above a year earlier, following what analysts describe as the biggest crop since the 1970s. Early Bird planting intentions point to spring oat area rising to around 200,000ha in 2020, and end-of-season stocks could reach 240kt.
Heavy supply with limited export outlets means large volumes are likely to carry into next season, adding pressure to oat prices that have already fallen sharply from a year earlier.
