Indian non-basmati rice exports fell more than 37% in April to November 2019 compared with the same period in 2018, to 3.14 million tonnes. Bangladesh almost stopped buying, and exporters blame cheaper Chinese rice and high government minimum support prices.
Weaker export demand and competition from cheaper Chinese rice put downward pressure on Asian rice prices, and the trade body expects annual losses of Rs 8,000 to 10,000 crore.
