World Grain analyst Drew Lerner wrote that U.S. summer weather was nearly ideal in June, which could produce a large corn and soybean crop. He said the crop is approaching a turning point where weather will matter more, and that a drier pattern is developing for the Corn Belt.
He noted that the tropics will largely determine how dry the Midwest becomes.
A drier outlook adds some weather risk premium, but historical yields suggest a moderate dry spell may not cut production much. Prices are likely to stay sensitive to the forecast.
