FAPRI and University of Missouri baseline projections show 2021 net farm income falling to $112 billion from $121 billion in 2020, as lower government payments and higher costs outweigh higher sales. The analysis notes that Chinese import growth has driven recent strength in grain and oilseed markets.
It also says U.S. exports and prices could exceed projections if China's buying continues.
Sustained Chinese purchases are the main upside risk to U.S. corn and soybean exports and prices, although the baseline uses January data and does not reflect later policy changes.
