The Malaysian Biodiesel Association said that higher biodiesel blends, such as Indonesia's planned B40 and Malaysia's B30, can offset weaker palm oil demand from the EU. It expects palm exports to the EU to fall faster than the pace set by the EU Renewable Energy Directive II.
The comments were made at the POTS Digital 2021 conference.
Stronger domestic biodiesel mandates would absorb palm oil that would otherwise go to Europe, supporting prices despite lower EU demand. This matters for vegetable oil costs used in feed formulation.
