South Australia's state government puts the 2021-22 grain crop at an early estimate of 7.6 million tonnes, about 1.5 million tonnes below last season. Sowing covered almost 4 million hectares, with a larger barley area in place of pulses and dry sowing after a late break.
A smaller SA crop than last year tightens regional wheat and barley supply somewhat, which is mildly supportive for prices. The early estimate could still change with rainfall.
