An analyst told the Jakarta Post that Indonesia's decision to suspend some palm oil export permits would have a negligible effect on global prices. Malaysian crude palm oil rose 1.5% in the days after the rule was announced, but the gain faded.
The analyst set resistance at 4,200 to 4,400 ringgit a tonne and warned of a fall toward 3,500 to 3,700 ringgit if a negative catalyst appeared.
The export tightening is a real supply risk from the largest palm producer, but the market is treating it as a limited shock. Buyers should price in only modest, short-lived palm support unless Indonesia expands the restrictions.
