The US Cattlemen's Association strongly opposes a USDA APHIS proposal to allow fresh chilled or frozen beef imports from Paraguay. The association cites animal health concerns, its estimate of $12 million to $23 million in annual producer losses, and a nearly ten-year gap since APHIS last visited Paraguay.
If the rule is adopted, added Paraguayan beef supply could modestly pressure US cattle and beef prices, though the proposal is not yet final.
