CME live cattle futures gained on August 25 as processors paid up to move market-ready cattle while heat stressed producers on the US Plains. October live cattle rose to 181.175 cents per pound, up 1.31% for the week.
Cash cattle eased in the north and weekly slaughter was down about 7.7% year on year.
Heat-reduced cattle performance and tight supplies support cattle prices, while lower slaughter tightens the market for feeder and fed cattle and the feed demand behind them.
