Global rice prices rose 7-8% in the past month to a 15-year high, traders and exporters said, as end-of-season supply tightened. India's ban on white and broken rice shipments has left an estimated 16 million tonnes short in the global market, nearly a third of annual trade.
With India restricting exports and supply thin, buyers of broken rice and rice byproducts face firm prices and little near-term relief. Feed-grade rice byproduct costs are likely to stay elevated.
