A Purdue University Center for Commercial Agriculture preliminary study analyzes the economic impact of Mexico's proposed GMO corn ban on US, Mexican and global corn markets. The paper notes the executive decree has been repeatedly delayed and narrowed, with the effective date cited as January 31, 2024.
Mexico plans to cut imports 30-40% by boosting domestic output.
The study frames the ban as a meaningful threat to US corn export volumes, since Mexico is a top buyer, implying bearish pressure on US corn prices if the ban is fully enforced.
