Mexico and Guatemala have agreed to strengthen cooperation to prevent cattle screwworm from entering their territories, following a meeting between their agriculture ministers. The pest has been eradicated from the US, Mexico and Central America but remains in parts of South America and the Caribbean.
Regional containment efforts reduce the risk of a wider outbreak that could disrupt Mexican cattle exports, so the price impact is limited for now.
