The USD/VND rate reached 25,555 per dollar on February 28, the highest level in five years according to Google Finance. The State Bank of Vietnam's central rate was 24,726, about 3% weaker than a year earlier, and the dollar index rose 0.8% to 107.34.
A five-year high in USD/VND raises the dong cost of dollar-priced feed imports. Analysts expect further dollar strength if tariff risks escalate in April, which would keep import costs elevated.
