The USDA Grain Transportation Report says the Ohio River was under a safety advisory with the Cincinnati Harbor closed, and low water cut barge drafts on the Mississippi at St. Louis and the Illinois River by 25 percent. Storm flooding also made a Norfolk Southern route impassable, and river delays of 24 to 28 hours were already in place before freezing weather lengthened them.
Barge and rail disruptions raise freight costs and slow shipments to export terminals and southeastern livestock feeders, supporting barge freight and widening basis for corn and soybeans.
