China set its 2025 grain output target at about 700 million tons, above the prior goal of at least 650 million, as it presented its annual work report at the National People's Congress. The report also reiterated retaliatory duties of 10-15% on US crops including soybeans, corn and wheat, and suspended soybean imports from three US entities.
A higher domestic grain target points to less import dependence over time, which is bearish for long-run US and other exporter sales to China. The tariff retaliation is already disrupting near-term US soybean and corn trade flows.
