Brazil's real slumped as much as 2.8% on Wednesday after Trump threatened a 50% tariff on Brazilian goods, with currency volatility gauges reaching their highest since April. The currency ended down 2.3% but rebounded Thursday, trading up 0.5% at 5.544 per dollar after touching a five-week low of 5.6277.
Tariff threats on Brazilian exports weigh on the real, and a weaker real makes Brazilian soybean, corn and meat exports cheaper in dollar terms, which can pressure global feed prices. The rebound shows the currency reaction was partly reversed, so the net price effect is limited.
