Fastmarkets hosted a webinar on animal feed, fats and proteins, covering structural shifts in the market. Speakers said renewable diesel demand is pulling animal fats out of feed rations and that US cattle supply tightness is expected to persist until 2027.
They also noted soybean meal is increasingly driven by crush margins and oil economics rather than moving in step with other proteins.
Biofuel demand pulling fats from feed and tight cattle supplies support protein meal prices, while soybean meal's decoupling from other proteins makes price relationships harder for buyers to hedge.
