The Assam government has temporarily banned imports of poultry and pigs from other Indian states to contain avian influenza and African swine fever. Intra-district and inter-district movement of live pigs remains allowed under biosecurity rules.
The order cites about 120 ASF epicentres in the state.
The ban restricts regional animal flows and may reduce local feed demand for pigs and poultry in the northeast. The effect on national prices is limited because it covers one state.
