A smallholder association, SPKS, urged the Indonesian government to reconsider raising the crude palm oil export levy from 7.5% to 10%. The union estimates the increase would cut fresh fruit bunch prices by Rp 300-500 per kilogram.
It proposed directly involving smallholders in biodiesel production instead.
Pushback on the levy hike adds uncertainty about whether Indonesia will raise the levy, which affects Indonesian and Malaysian palm oil price relationships. Any delay or dilution of the hike would ease that support.
