Low Carbon Fuel Standards in California and Oregon, with other states considering similar rules, are pushing demand for renewable diesel made from fats and vegetable oils. Industry analysts say edible fat and oil supplies would need to roughly double over the next decade to meet projected feedstock needs.
A structural increase in demand for vegetable oils for fuel would tighten supplies for food and feed uses and support soybean oil prices. The impact on soybean meal would be a by-product effect as crush rises.
