Merchant ships are stranded in the Black Sea after Russia blockaded the region and Ukraine laid mines around its ports, halting imports and exports of key commodities. Ukraine is unable to export wheat and other grains to Middle East and North African buyers, and a cargo ship was reportedly hit by a missile.
The blockade cuts a major wheat supply route to importing regions, supporting wheat prices and freight costs while shipping risk persists.
