USDA's May 2021 crop report included surprises that made it more negative than expected. Old-crop wheat exports were cut, and new-crop wheat feed use rose 70 million bushels as high corn prices shifted feeders to wheat.
EU old-crop production was cut 9.7 million metric tons, and Australian and Canadian new-crop estimates were lowered.
Higher wheat feed use and lower export projections raise domestic wheat consumption and reduce carryout. The lower EU and Australian crops tighten global supply and support wheat prices.
