CBOT oats rose 6.5% to $4.16 a bushel after Statistics Canada's model-based estimate put the 2026 Canadian oat crop 22.7% lower, to 3.03 million tonnes. Most of the decline came from a sharp cut in seeded acreage, while yield fell only 3.5%.
Chicago prices now sit well above Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's forecast average.
A large Canadian supply shortfall tightens the oat balance and supports prices. Chicago's premium over Ottawa's forecast suggests the market has priced in more tightness than the official outlook assumes.
