The World Bank's October 2021 Commodity Markets Outlook forecasts energy prices to average more than 80% higher in 2021 than in 2020. It expects energy to stay high in 2022 and begin declining in the second half of the year, while non-energy prices, including agriculture, are projected to fall in 2022.
The report also warns of food security impacts in some countries.
The forecast of lower agricultural prices in 2022 points to easing pressure on grain and feed markets, while elevated energy costs continue to raise production and freight expenses in the near term.
