Brent settled $1.20 higher at $72.25 per barrel and WTI rose 82 cents to $68.36 after EIA data showed US fuel demand at its highest since the start of the pandemic. US crude stocks fell by 3 million barrels and refinery runs rose to 92.4% of capacity.
Rising fuel demand and high refinery utilization support crude and product prices into the late-summer driving season. Higher energy costs also feed into feed transport and processing expenses.
