The IGC reported that its September price indices rose, with barley up 8% and wheat up 5% month on month. Year on year, the barley index was up 27% and the wheat index up 15%.
The IGC raised its world grains production estimate by 19 Mt to 2,069 Mt, while forecasting consumption up 7 Mt and trade up 5 Mt.
Global stocks could fall in 2017/18 for the first time in five years, mainly for maize, as demand outpaces supply, which supports barley and wheat prices.
