Farmers who used the program observed that their calves were more contented, for longer, after feeding. Bell-Booth asked Massey University to investigate the interaction between Queen of Calves™ and milk. Massey’s rheology studies found the treated milk formed a curd with a greater tensile strength. Later, we asked AgResearch to determine if the stronger curd had an effect on the rate of the milk’s passage through the abomasum (the simple stomach). Using ultrasoundography, the retention time of milk that had been treated with Queen of Calves FINISHER, was compared with untreated milk. The retention time of treated milk in four week old calves was on average 5 hours and 53 minutes, compared to an average retention time of 4 hours 28 minutes for the calves that were fed milk only.
