Himalayan Salt is mined by hand at the Khewra Salt Mine which is the second largest Salt Mine in the world and is in Khewra City in Pakistan. The story of how the salt deposits at Khewra were discovered is quite intriguing. In 326 BC Alexander the Great and his entourage were passing through a South Asia region (Pakistan) and when they reached an area now called Khewra the horses began to lick the stones on the ground. This was noticed by the soldiers of Alexander the Great and when the soldiers inspected the stones, they found them to be quite salty and this is how the salt reserves at Khewra were discovered. Today, Himalayan Salt which is considered as one of the most organic salts has gained global popularity, as it can be used for different purposes such as for cooking and garnishing, platters (plates) for hot and cold food, meat preservation, therapeutic use, licks for animals, and much more. The salt is unrefined and unprocessed containing around 84 different minerals and trace elements.
