The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index fell about 3.5% in the week, its biggest weekly loss since March 2020, after its worst one-day drop since 2009 following U.S. inflation data. The yen was the main beneficiary, and the index remains about 6% below its late-September peak.
Some analysts still see the longer-term dollar trend as intact.
The dollar's retreat from its peak eases pressure on import costs for dollar-based buyers and supports dollar-priced commodities, although analysts expect a rebound is possible.
