The FTC settled charges that the proposed Enbridge and Spectra Energy merger would reduce pipeline competition in three offshore Gulf of Mexico production areas. The settlement requires the merged company to limit access to non-public information about the Discovery Pipeline.
The original deal was valued at $28 billion.
The settlement preserves competition in Gulf gas pipeline transport, which helps keep transport costs for offshore gas from rising. The direct price effect on feed commodities is minimal.
