A Transport & Environment report published on July 26 argues that EU trade talks with Mercosur could increase imports of unsustainable soy-based biodiesel from Argentina. The report calls for trade and climate policies to be made coherent.
It also notes Argentina's WTO complaint about EU biofuel sustainability criteria.
Trade concessions on crop-based biodiesel could expand soy oil supply into Europe, but the report itself is advocacy and no policy change has been made.
