Peru's anchovy season officially closed at the end of January 2018 after fishing bans and restrictions over juvenile fish, with the season ending less than a month after bans were lifted due to spawning. The catch reached about 650,000 metric tons, roughly 850,000 tons below the anticipated quota, yielding about 148,000 tons of fishmeal.
With around 160,000 tons of fishmeal already presold and output below 150,000 tons, uncommitted supply is likely to be very tight, supporting higher fishmeal prices.
