Thai private sector groups expressed serious concern that the baht, at its highest against the dollar in six years, may hurt exports of agricultural and consumer products. The Thai Rice Exporters' Association said 2019 rice exports may fall short of the 10-million-tonne target.
The central bank may curb short-term capital inflows if they continue.
A strong baht makes Thai rice less competitive on world markets, which could trim Thai export volumes and modestly support rice prices elsewhere. The effect on feed commodities is small.
