Malaysia's biodiesel output is forecast to rise 55% to 1.4 million tonnes in 2019, with exports at 600,000 to 650,000 tonnes. The industry association attributes the growth to low palm oil prices, which make palm-based biodiesel more attractive for blending.
Exports are expected to benefit from the EU's proposed duties on Indonesian biodiesel.
Stronger biodiesel blending absorbs palm oil and supports demand, which is bullish for palm oil prices. Cheap feedstock is driving the expansion, so the demand gain is partly self-reinforcing.
