The Central Bank of Brazil voted unanimously to cut the Selic rate by 50 basis points to 5.50%, the second consecutive cut and a record low. The committee cited a gradual economic recovery, a global slowdown and continuing domestic reforms.
Lower domestic rates weaken the real and can make Brazilian commodity exports more price-competitive. The move reinforces the currency pressure that tends to support USD-denominated export prices for soybeans and meal.
