Trase research commissioned by the Greens/EFA group finds the draft EU regulation would not protect Cerrado and Gran Chaco savannah and grassland. The rules apply only to land meeting the FAO forest definition.

If the EU widens the scope to cover Brazilian and Argentine savannah, soy and beef exports from those regions could face tougher checks. This would be a medium-term factor for South American soy and meal supply to Europe.
