The JRC MARS April bulletin reported exceptionally warm spring temperatures across most of Europe from early March to mid April. Warm weather and adequate water supported winter crops and sowing of spring cereals, and the EU yield forecast was revised up for durum wheat, spring barley and triticale in the Iberian Peninsula.
Overly wet conditions in north-western Europe, and drought in parts of the south, still limited yield potential.
Favourable weather and upward yield revisions add to EU supply, which is mildly bearish for wheat and barley prices. Wet and dry pockets limit how much of that gain is realised.
