Latin American currencies took a hit on Friday, with Brazil's real leading the decline as investors grew cautious ahead of new U.S. tariffs. Brazil's government had struggled to avoid the 50% tariffs as high-level talks stalled, and the real fell 0.8% against the dollar.
Stalled talks increase the likelihood that the 50% tariff on Brazilian exports takes effect, which would reduce Brazilian export demand. A weaker real partly cushions exporters, so the feed-price impact depends on how the tariff plays out.
