The European Central Bank held its benchmark deposit facility rate at 2% on April 30, 2026, despite euro-zone inflation rising to 3% in April, driven mainly by higher energy costs. The bank said upside risks to inflation and downside risks to growth had intensified because of the Middle East war.
It left the door open to further tightening depending on the duration of the energy shock.
A higher-rate path in the euro zone tends to strengthen the euro against the dollar, which can affect dollar-denominated feed commodity prices and European import costs. Higher energy and borrowing costs also weigh on European livestock and feed margins.
