The Brazilian real strengthened to 5.12 per USD from a two-week low of 5.14 on July 27 after the Federal Reserve held rates unchanged. The decision weakened the dollar, since roughly a third of the market had positioned for a hike.
Brazil also added 145,161 formal jobs in June, above expectations of 115,000.
A firmer real lowers the local-currency cost of imported feed inputs and supports Brazilian export pricing competitiveness. Its direction is driven mainly by the interest-rate gap, so the Copom decision on August 4-5 is the next swing factor.
